Aside from these fixed landmarks and facilities that you can visit as much as you want all throughout the year, another city feature that attracts visitors and patrons are the events that take place in this city every year.


The calendar of events in the City of Dresden, Germany is a rather busy one which makes it such a wonderful place to visit since you are almost always guaranteed to find some special event occurring in Dresden anytime of the year. But why are events so important? City events and celebrations contribute to society is such a way that they create a greater sense of belonging and community within the city. Even tourists and visitors can feel as if they belong to the city along with other locals because of the festive air and fellowship that citywide events produce.


Jazz music is celebrated to such an overpowering degree here at Dresden, Germany through its annual jazz fest called the Dixieland Festival. It is considered as the largest and most well-attended of its kind, not just in Gemany, but in the entire continent. The Dixieland Festival is held on the second week of May every year. Another musical festival in Dresden is the Dresden Music Festival also held every May. This festival features everything from classical to contemporary music and everything else in between.


The Elbhangfest is also a famous Dresden event held every June. Imagine the beautiful River Elbe and on the far banks are stalls, shops, restaurants, stages, book stalls and other outdoor facilities. You can shop, join in the parade, watch performances, eat, drink and be merry along with other tourists and locals in this historic celebration. Another Dresden event that takes place on the banks of the Elbe is the Filmnächte which happens every June to August. Large movie screen are set up, concert stages are built and a fun filled event follows.


Gay festivals are very popular in many European cities and Dresden also has a version of this called the Dresden Christopher Street Day or the Dresden Pride Festival celebrated every June. And for those who are tired of the gloomy cold of winter, then summer is something worth welcoming with celebrations. The Summer Night of Museums is an annual Dresden celebration held on the month of July wherein museums all over the city unite to arrange the event.


Other Dresden events include the loud and lively Bunte Republik Neustadt, the much-awaited Dresden City Festival and the well-established Striezelmarkt Christmas Market Bazaar.
